House with garden and caves – 2

Saturday, February 17th, 2007

Since last Summer studiometrico is busy demolishing and re-constructing a private house on the countryside North of Rome. The project development started in 2005 and has been previously posted with the title House with garden and caves. Since works completion is getting close, we make here available few pictures showing the house before, through and after its troubled transformation.

A well as a patio on Interni

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

Interni magazine’s issue of September 2006 features an article about the private house of Catherine Vautrin and Tiziano Vudafieri in Milan. Designed by Tiziano Vudafieri, the house is articulated around a small, shady, green patio that was conceived in collaboration with Lorenzo Bini from Studiometrico and Gianluca Lugli. We publish here few images of the house, the garden (which we previously named ‘A well as a patio’) and the courtyard.

zhou-entrance

studiometrico has presented last week a first proposal for a private garden in shanghai, china. the project is an intervention on a ‘problematic’ exhisting environment: a house already exists and a garden has been already layed out by unknown designers, but since the character of both is not considered satisfying by the owner, vudafieri partners and studiometrico have been called up to collaborate (once again) to produce new concepts for the interior and the outdoor spaces. the proposal has been well received and, according to the scheduled timeline, works should be completed by next chinese new year!

The atlantic wall exhibition

Monday, November 21st, 2005

The DPA of the Politecnico of Milan (I), with the GRAI of the
Ecole d’Architecture de Versailles (F) and the Raymond Lemaire
International Centre for Conservation in Leuven (B), has
managed a research within the EU programme Culture 2004
concerning the Atlantic Wall, the defence line built by German
occupation forces between 1939 and 1944 along the coasts of
France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Norway.
More than 12.000 concrete bunkers were built, an impressive
number for cost and labour involved.
The project underlines the architectural and cultural value of an
unique transnational heritage, preserving a shared memory on
the European soil.
An heritage to be safeguarded by the construction of the
Atlantic Wall Linear Museum.

The Atlantic Wall Linear Museum exhibition, designed by
studiometrico has been held at the Politecnico di Milano
between 27 october and 11 november 2005.

Living in Milan?

Monday, October 31st, 2005

studiometrico has been among the partecipants
in the international competition living in milan/2.
our project intention was to focus on the organization
of a suburban area in milan, to develop a simple, clear,
low cost apartment building, and to describe a variety
of places (from private to public) for many activities
for future residents and neighbours. obviously not very
inspired by our proposal, the jury has then assigned five
prices to other five entries that you can check out, and
maybe comment on the very useful europaconcorsi site

Royal canal linear park

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

studiometrico proposal for the ‘royal canal
linear park competition’ originated from the
‘reading of the place’ at a local level and from
an accurate overview of the context.

the competition area was strongly marked by
the presence of railway infrastructural lines
that, although partially dismissed, cut through
the urban fabric, turning any structured planning
development into a knotty question. the site
didn’t have the dimensions and the morphology
to become a coherent and generous linear park:
the stretch of land was fragmented the banks were
too narrow and the landscape was too congestioned.
our proposal moved toward theconcept of a more
articulated and equipped ‘public space’. an urban
system that could interact react and dialogue both
to the city pattern and the infrastructural barriers;
a green promenade for the residents and for the
entire dublin population. we believe our project
met the competition requirements in terms of
environmental regeneration but also overcame
the given issues by taking a strong position that
was able to ‘discuss’ while responding.

after a huge delay the jury shortlisted only
four projects to join stage two. studiometrico
proposal has been excluded and it will take
another three or four months (or more ?)
before the assessors report publication (!).
we are as sad for the result as disappointed
for the way the competition has been managed.
nevertheless we are happy to publish the content
of our entry and perhaps get valid net feedback.
