bastard store wins the ArchDaily Building of the Year Award

During the weeks that followed ONLYWOOD, some attention was raised on COMVERT HQ. Curious people started to search, ask, talk and write about the project… This is a good thing for studiometrico, Bastard, Atelier LC and specially for Comvert, a fantastic company and an unforgettable client who’s kicking it hard in this ‘supposedly’ difficult moment. Only 48 hours after the successful ONLYWOOD (the COMVERT Headquarter Grand Opening Party) we went back to Casacomvert for the first skate-session after the completion of the Bastard Bowl, the first skateable spaceship ever landed on earth. It was not surprising to find out that there was a martian skating upthere!

We are finally able to post an ‘almost’ complete set of pictures and drawings concerning a project that has kept us busy for more than one year: The new home of Comvert s.r.l, the italian clothing company that produces and distributes Bastard. Few years ago Comvert asked studiometrico to look for a location for its new headquarter in Milan; the place should have been large enough to host offices for 15-20 people, services, a big storage for their products and an indoor skatebowl for employees, team riders and friends. In spring 2005 we eventually found a Cinema theater from the 50′s that really suited Comvert needs and few months ago – after the conclusion of the refurbishment works – the company has moved into its new home: Casacomvert!

We publish here some new pictures showing progress of the Cinema Istria building site. A new structure of terraced platforms cladded with larch wood panels will soon host the headquarter office spaces. The old floor of the mezzanine has been sanded, old paint has been removed and the pine planks have been taken to life again. Electrical, heating and cooling installations are almost completed and soon furnitures and finishings will complete the works. We look forward to see (and show) the end of it!

After a couple of months of site works we publish here few pictures of the most ambitious of our current projects: converting a 1.300 sqm Cinema Theater into an unconventional office space for a young Milan-based clothing company. Architecture works and installations should be concluded within a month and the new headquarter should be available for its inhabitants by the summer. We’ll be able to tell and show more about this project as the building site progress.

cinema istria is an old cinema of 1.100 seats distributed on two levels, with a volume of 6.600 cubic meters and an overall floor area of 1.300 square meters. its bearing structure constitutes in a series of reinforced concrete arches supporting the curved roof. a 350 sqm adjecting mezzanine features a series of longitudinal beams bounded to the curved wall opposite of the screen and supported by columns. the cinema, built in the 40′s according to the design of Ing. Mario Cavallé and currently occupied by a car dealer, will be refurbished by studiometrico with great care for its original forms and will be used by its future inhabitants as a working place and a recreational space.
